Rule: 8-4-1b, 7-4-1b
The rule is mostly the same as OBR:
- The batter may advance if first base is unoccupied at the time of the pitch or there are two outs.
- If the batter does not attempt to run immediately, he is out.
- Key difference: In NFHS, a batter is out immediately if he enters the dugout or other dead-ball territory, even if the catcher did not make a play.
- NFHS Rule 8-4-1 (a) states “The batter-runner is out when the batter-runner INTENTIONALLY interferes with the catcher’s attempt to field the ball after a third strike.”
